Sydney’s Friendliest Beachside Suburb

12 Apr 2024

The laidback cousin of Bondi and Bronte, Coogee is one of the most relaxed beachside suburbs in Sydney that was developed in the early 1900s and modelled on a classic English seaside resort. Despite the march of time, Coogee has retained its friendly village feel but instead of the amusement pier and penny arcades of a century ago, today hosts a fantastic line-up of cafes, bars and restaurants anchored by the landmark Coogee Pavilion. Life in Coogee is centred around the beach with the heritage-listed Wylie’s Baths at one end and Gordons Bay at the other.

Property in Coogee has always been in high demand, especially with young families, and we’ve had some excellent results in the past few weeks. Doreen Wilson and Christian West sold the eco-friendly masterpiece at 6 Brighton Road, Coogee at auction with 110 buyers through the 23 day campaign. Alexander Phillips and Gavin Lewis sold 364-364A Alison Road, Coogee for circa $9.5m which is a new street record. The newly built high-spec home was snapped up after only 16 days on the market with its north-facing garden, luxurious interiors and unique rooftop terrace attracting huge interest with 89 buyers inspecting the home before it was sold prior to auction.

New to the market and one of Coogee’s finest historic homes, Rainbrook House was built c1930 and has been tastefully renovated to deliver a home of enduring style and substance inspired by French country living. Wrapped in landscaped alfresco living spaces on a sunny double corner block, 184-186 Brook Street, Coogee features a luxurious master suite, a choice of living areas, home cinema and a double garage topped with a green roof. A forever family home, the five-bedroom residence is positioned away from the crowds but close to the beach action and just 750m to Wylie’s Baths.

Those looking to enter the market should check out Bailey Pengelly’s listing at 9/10-12 Kidman Street, Coogee which is an easy breezy 550m stroll down to the sand and surf. Set to the quiet rear of a boutique Art Deco block, the renovated one-bedroom apartment comes with a buyer’s guide of $735,000 and is scheduled for auction at the end of the month.
